SIL is NDIS funding for help with everyday tasks, such as personal care, cooking, cleaning and getting out into the community, so you can live as independently as possible. It's usually provided in a shared home, with support workers there when you need them, up to 24 hours a day.
No. SIL funds the support, not the home. You still pay rent and day to day living costs such as food and utilities, usually from your income or the Disability Support Pension. If you're eligible for Specialist Disability Accommodation, that funding covers the cost of the specialised home itself.
SIL is assessed by the NDIA as part of your home and living supports. You or your support coordinator can ask for a home and living review, usually with reports from allied health professionals that describe your support needs. Once SIL is in your plan, we work with you on a roster of support and help you find the right home.
SIL is the support you receive: the people. SDA is the specialised home: the bricks and mortar. Many participants have both, but you can receive SIL without living in an SDA home.
Yes. We look at compatibility, routines and interests, and you can tour the home and meet potential housemates before you decide. Browse our current SIL vacancies to see what's available.
