What is STA?

Short Term Accommodation (STA), often called respite, is a short, NDIS funded stay away from your usual home, with your support, accommodation, meals and activities all included.

What STA can be used for

  • Respite care: a break for you and your regular supporters
  • Temporary accommodation while recovering from illness, surgery, or a hospital stay
  • A fun getaway to explore new areas, meet new people, and build skills
  • Exploring future living options such as SIL or drop in supports

STA for a change of scenery

A fresh environment can do wonders. During an STA stay with EDC, you get to relax, try new activities, meet new people, and pick up new skills, all while your support needs are taken care of from start to finish.

STA for recovery and transition

Leaving hospital or recovering from surgery can feel overwhelming. Our STA gives you a safe, supportive space to recuperate at your own pace, with rehabilitation coordination, health management, and medication support all handled by our team.

STA for future planning

Not sure what your next step looks like? An STA stay is a low pressure way to try different living arrangements and support levels before committing to something long term.

What's included

  • Personalised support plan for your stay
  • Fully equipped accommodation: private rooms, accessible bathrooms, shared spaces
  • Nutritious meals tailored to your needs
  • Fun and meaningful activities and community outings
  • Health and wellbeing support including medication management

Respite and Short Term Accommodation: common questions

What is Short Term Accommodation (STA) or respite?

STA is NDIS funded respite: a short stay away from home with your support, accommodation, meals and activities included. It gives you a change of scene and gives your family or carers a break.

How long can an STA stay be?

STA is generally used for stays of up to 14 days at a time. How much STA you can use over the year depends on what's funded in your NDIS plan.

What does STA funding cover?

STA funding generally covers your support, accommodation, food and the activities planned during your stay, all in one.

Can I use STA after a hospital stay?

Yes. STA can give you a safe, supported place to recover after hospital while longer term plans are put in place. Our transition support team can help coordinate the move.
